4 Signs Its Time For A New Roof

A roof can only protect your home for so many years. If you can, it’s best to notice that your roof is aging and replace it before it has a chance to start leaking rainwater into your attic or top floor. However, you can still avoid a lot of structural damage if you keep an eye out for dark spots on the ceiling, lines on walls, mold growth, and other evidence that your roof has sprung a leak. A musty smell building up in your attic is also a sign that water is getting into places it shouldn’t go.

2. Curling Shingles

When asphalt shingles reach their limit, the adhesive that binds each shingle layer together will break down and the tips of the shingles will start to curl up. This isn’t an immediate problem since rainwater flows down the shingles, but small amounts of water can leak in by soaking the exposed shingles during a storm or when rooftop snow melts. 4. Cracked Or Balding Shingles

Asphalt shingles have several layers. The base layer is made from wood fiber or fiberglass, and it’s then coated in asphalt to make it waterproof. The exposed area is then coated in granules of slate, sand, quartz, or other minerals to protect the asphalt from sun exposure and harsh weather. If those granules start falling out or showing cracks, it means the asphalt underneath is aging and losing its waterproofing. That makes it a good time to replace the shingles.
